Taylor Swift and the NFL

By now, you may have heard the news among the current most popular celebrities in the country: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are rumored to be dating. Swift was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs game just over a week ago and since then, all eyes have been on the alleged couple. The impact of the
relationship goes far beyond Swifties eying a potential new man, though. Sales of Travis Kelce’s jersey
are up a whopping 400%, and the Chiefs vs. Bears game was the most viewed television broadcast of the week because Swift was there. Female viewership, in particular, saw the most dramatic spike, with a 63% increase among women aged 18-49.

All this attention on the couple is not only great for the two involved, but also for the NFL. Both Swift and the NFL are always looking for new fans, with big wallets, to invest in their entertainment platforms. It's not unreasonable to call football fans and Swifties some of the most diehard, dedicated fans of all time. The collision of the two fandoms is unlike any spectacle we’ve ever seen, and the potential for huge profits is on the horizon. Swift is introducing an entirely new audience, primarily young women, to football and boosting the NFL’s name. Only time will tell whether this interest lasts. But for now, Swift and the NFL can and will continue to benefit from the increased publicity.
